This is interesting…
Heroin Addiction Recovery
“If you or a loved one is addicted to heroin, don’t face it alone. There are many addiction recovery facilities that can help. Contact your physician, a local counseling service, or a local 12 step support group for recommendations. Treatment of heroin can be difficult, but many wonderful people have found success with addiction recovery programs and are able to live a full and complete life without heroin..…”

Jim, I agree. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that the reasons for being good are love, compassion, and charity. You are correct that if fear is the motivator than we are less than moral. Fear is a tool of the devil, not of our Heavenly Father. Love is the tool of God and a perfectly good motivator for morality.

I also maintain that things are right because the world was created with eternal purposes in mind. In order to accomplish those purposes there must be things which are right and things which are wrong. The key is to learn to choose the right. We will all be better for it.

Can one do right without religion? Yes.
Can one do wrong with religion? Yes.
Without a heaven or a hell then why would we want to learn to be good?

I find peace and purpose in trying to progress toward something beyond this world. In order to do so I need to make good choices and behave appropriately out of love for my fellow man.

Hello Jordan. I'm a huge fan of your watchmaking blog.

Let me just bring up a powerful moral argument here: if we act morally only because there are consequences for acting immorally, then we are still less than moral.

We must act morally because it is right. In itself.

Not because God says so. Not because there is heaven awaiting us if we do, or hell awaiting us if we do not.

Fear of consequences is for the weak -- for the immoral who cannot act correctly unless there is incentive or punishment.

What Lennon is saying in the first part of the song is that we must be good because it is right. In itself. And is its own reward.

I find this a convincing moral argument.

Carry on,
Jim

Can You imagine that Sesame Street taped her(Katie Perry) as a guest with Elmo. And then there was negative commentary from parents who saw it on u tube before it even went on the program-the comment was because of her revealing attire not being appropriate-nothing about the fact that her songs are also not appropriate so she shouldn't be a role model for little children. They were trying to appeal to the younger parents and get them watching with their kids. But they did, to their credit, remove it from the show.

jwoodsy, Elder Oaks told us he couldn't remember because it isn't really important whether the brother was older or younger, but that it was important that it be translated correctly. If you want to know you'll have to learn vietnamese and read the Book of Mormon, I guess.

So what was the answer the Quorum received? Was the Brother of Jared in fact, older or younger, than his brother?
